Ken was born and raised on the south side of Chicago, where he still lives. Ever since he can remember (approximately the last Ice Age), he has known how to draw, a skill that miraculously survived what he laughingly refers to as his “artistic training”. He can honestly say that the most enjoyable college class he ever took was Engineering Drafting. After escaping the ivied walls, he was determined to make a living as an artist, despite the ardent opposition of his father, who wanted him to become -- what else? -- a doctor. It was not until Ken\'s first full-time job drawing heating and air-conditioning components that he learned the finer points of using the french curve, ellipse template, technical pen and airbrush. He sat down in front of a Macintosh computer at the age of 32, and it changed his life -- partially. He has not forgotten how to draw! He enjoys NPR (especially those two nuts on CarTalk), classical and jazz music, old movie musicals, and keeping his red \'84 Fiero roadworthy. He has recently taken up the gentle art of gardening, during which he made the wrenching and expensive discovery that a 90-degree heatwave and drought is not an opportune time to plant anything. |
